Top Companies for Remote Jobs Run by Women

When it comes to the ongoing topic of women in leadership, there appears to be an interesting intersection between women leaders and remote work. In honor of International Women’s Day on March 8, we’re highlighting the companies run by women offering the most remote jobs on FlexJobs, along with some of the most recent data on women in leadership at both remote and traditional companies.

It turns out, there may be a link between offering flexible work options and women reaching high-level positions. Companies with majority remote teams seem to have a higher percentage of women in CEO or founder roles than traditional office-based companies.

At majority remote companies, 19% of CEOs are women, compared to only 5% of Fortune 500 companies and 4.8% of S&P 500 companies. Furthermore, 28% of completely remote companies have women CEOs, founders, or presidents. But why might that be?

On our sister site, Remote.co, women leaders of some of the most remote-friendly companies were asked to talk about why they think remote companies tend to have more women in leadership roles than traditional companies. Their top reasons included:

#1: Remote companies create more space to handle conflicting responsibilities (like career growth, parenting, managing a household, acting as caregiver, volunteering, etc.).

#2: Remote work has fewer trade-offs when maneuvering work and life priorities.

#3: Remote work doesn’t care about face time or “looking like” a leader. Results are what matters.

#4: Remote work creates a more level playing field for all professionals to balance work and life goals.

Companies with the Most Remote Jobs Run by Women

Earlier this year, FlexJobs released its sixth-annual list of the “100 Top Companies with Remote Jobs.” The companies on this list offered the most remote jobs throughout 2018 on FlexJobs and they lead the way in offering remote work options and managing strong remote work programs.

Let’s take a look at 15 top companies for remote jobs that also have women leaders.

The companies below all have a woman founder, cofounder, or CEO. We’ve also included each company’s rank on our list of the “100 Top Companies with Remote Jobs in 2019.”

Click on each company to learn more and see available remote and flexible jobs.

Interestingly, three of the five top companies for remote jobs in 2019 were either founded or cofounded by women, demonstrating the positive intersection between remote work and women in leadership positions.

Finding jobs that offer a better way to work through flexibility in when, where, and how work gets done can have profound effects on individuals, families, communities, and societies. On International Women’s Day, and all year long, FlexJobs hopes to support and encourage women and all professionals as they seek flexible and remote work.
