Waitangi Day Family Celebrations 2021

On 6 February 1840 the Treaty of Waitangi was signed between Māori chiefs and the Crown. Local Kahungunu chiefs signed the treaty 23 June 1840 on board HMS Bunbury near Clive between Hastings and Napier.

To mark the occasion Ngati Kahungunu iwi Inc in conjunction with Hastings District Council are organising a fun-filled day with music, entertainment and sport for the entire family. This is one of the largest national day events in New Zealand.

Adeaze one of the country’s most iconic and beloved recording duo will headline Waitangi Day Family Celebrations. Other artists include Harmonic Resonators, Hipstamatics, NRG Rising, Israel Starr, Talitha Blake and Aaron Edwards. There’s Taikura kapa haka, Te Aute College kapa haka and a Samoan cultural group.

In the morning the sports fields will be alive with hundreds of players taking part in netball, rugby league 9s and touch.

Free rides are on offer all day for Mahons Amusements most popular thrill rides including the Hurricane, Rockin Tug, Cup & Saucer, Pirates of the Pacific walk through and the Pirate Ship.

A market place of 40 traders will be providing a wide range of kiwi, Asian and world food choices with healthy options too.

There’s a world class covered 2500 seat grandstand providing all day weather protection, 60 toilets for comfort convenience and unlimited free carparking.

Everyone is welcome to come along including visitors from near and far. Unlimited free on site parking.
