St Andrew Day Prayers: God-like God, who didst give such effortlessness unto thy blessed Apostle Saint Andrew, that he promptly complied with the calling of thy Son Jesus Christ, and tailed him immediately: Grant unto every one of us, that we, being called by thy heavenly word, may forthwith surrender ourselves loyally to satisfy the sacred decrees; through a similar Jesus Christ our Lord. So be it. St Andrew Day Greetings

THE EPISTLE
Romans 10.9-end
In the event that thou shalt admit with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt trust in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be spared. For with the heart man believeth unto nobility, and with the mouth admission is made unto salvation. For the Scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him will not be embarrassed.

For there is no contrast between the Jew and the Greek: for a similar Lord over all is rich unto such call upon him. For whosoever will call upon the name of the Lord will be spared. How at that point will they approach him, in whom they have not accepted? What’s more, by what means will they trust in him, of whom they have not heard? Furthermore, in what manner will they hear without an evangelist?
What’s more, in what capacity will they lecture, with the exception of they be sent? As it is composed, How lovely are the feet of them that lecture the Gospel of harmony, and bring happy greetings of beneficial things! In any case, they have not all complied with the Gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath accepted our report? So then confidence cometh by hearing, and hearing by the expression of God. Be that as it may, I state, Have they not heard? Indeed verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their words unto the parts of the bargains.
Be that as it may, I state, Did not Israel know? First Moses saith, I will incite you to envy by them that are no individuals, and by a stupid country I will outrage you. In any case, Esaias is intense, and saith, I was found of them that looked for me not; I was made show unto them that asked not after me. Yet, to Israel he saith, All day long I have extended forward my hands unto a defiant and refuting individuals.

THE GOSPEL
St. Matthew 4.18-20
JESUS, strolling by the ocean of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his sibling, throwing a net into the ocean, (for they were fishers;) and he saith unto them, Follow me; and I will make you fishers of men. What’s more, they straightway left their nets, and tailed him.
Furthermore, going on from thus he saw other two brethren, James the child of Zebedee, and John his sibling, in a ship with Zebedee their dad, retouching their nets; and he called them. Furthermore, they promptly left the ship and their dad, and tailed him.

St Andrew’s Prayer

O Glorious St. Andrew,
you were the first to recognize and follow the Son of God.
With your friend, St. John,
you remained with Jesus,
for your entire life,
and now throughout eternity.
Just as you led your brother, St Peter,
to Christ and many others after him,
draw us also to Him.
Teach us how to lead them,
solely out of love for Jesus
and dedication to His service.
Help us to learn the lesson of the Cross
and carry our daily crosses without complaint,
so that they may carry us to God the Almighty Father. Amen.

St Andrew’s Call

Brother of Simon Peter, you heard John the Baptist say: “Behold the Lamb of God,” and you chose to follow Jesus.
Leaving your nets, you became a successful fisher of souls.
Lover of the Crucified Christ, you too were crucified like him.
Teach us to live and suffer for Him and to win many souls for Christ. Amen.
O Good Cross (O Bona Crux)

(A prayer reflecting St Andrew’s delight immediately prior to his crucifixion and death.)
“O good Cross, made beautiful by the body of the Lord: long have I desired you, ardently have I loved you, unceasingly have I sought you out and now you are ready for my eager soul. Receive me from among men and restore me to my Master, so that he who, by means of You, in dying redeemed me, may now receive me. Amen.”
… St Andrew, Pray for Us …

This prayer is being shared by Ibrox, Kinning Park and Mosspark Churches of Scotland, and St Leo the Great Roman Catholic Church.

Loving God,
We think of Andrew, called first among your disciples,
Leaving his nets to follow Jesus, leaving his life behind to answer your call,
We thank you for Andrew, an example to all who follow you
Trusting blindly in your promise, trusting in a better life with you
Leader: You have called us into your service
All: Make us your true disciples
We think of Andrew, spreading the gospel in times of persecution and hostility
When the church was young and regarded with suspicion
Inspired by the Holy Spirit to convince others of the good news of Jesus Christ
Disregarding danger and hardship, doing your will as your disciple, your apostle.
Leader: You have called us into your service
All: Make us your true disciples
We think of Andrew, remembered on his cross, tortured and put to death for his faith,
Confessing Jesus bravely in pain and fear, trusting in him to the end, leaving us the legacy of God’s good news
We thank you for Andrew, a warning for us to remember those tortured and persecuted today, to remember why you sent your son, to remember Jesus as the prince of Peace
Leader: You have called us into your service
All: Make us your true disciples

We think of Andrew, whose message travelled to the farthest corners of the world,
Whose message is heard here in Scotland, whom we remember when we search the sky for our answers
We thank you for Andrew whose message is heard in Russia and Greece, in Europe, Asia and Africa, remembered as one of your first servants
To make disciples of all nations, to make us all follow the Prince of Peace
Leader: You have called us into your service
All: Make us your true disciples
God of all nations, you have sent us Andrew the apostle, inspired by your Spirit to spread your news, let us find his courage to follow you, let us find his passion to be your witness, let us be your disciples.
AMEN
