When will PS4 Black Friday deals begin?
Black Friday 2020 will be on November 27, 2020. However many retailers, like Currys in the UK, don’t just limit sales to Black Friday or Cyber Monday. Over the last two years, its Black Tag Event started at the beginning of the Black Friday week and ran into the following week through to Cyber Monday too – with some deals carrying across, and new ones being added in each period.
We expect Currys to do the same in 2020, as well as other major retailers that kick their deals off earlier than expected – and keep them going after Black Friday and Cyber Monday have come and gone.
The top PS4 Black Friday deals we saw last year
PS5 offers themselves might be light this November, but if you do spot Black Friday PS4 deals it’s worth knowing if they still represent a good investment.
Well, we believe they can, if you find the right price. For a start, the PS5 doesn’t come cheap, with the console coming in at $499 / £449 and the Digital Edition sitting at $399 / £359. That means there is still a market for the PS4, though if you’re looking at a PS4 Pro at a similar price point to the digital PS5 we’d stick with the new release.
It might be worth picking up a Black Friday PS4 deal if you’re looking to get into Sony’s library without the hefty cost of the latest console. If you find a super cheap PS4 Slim deal, then, it’s likely to be worth your time while waiting for the PS5 to come down in price. Plus, if pre-order availability remains as limited as we’re seeing right now Black Friday PS4 deals might be your only option.
In the meantime, you might as well make the most of that PS4, especially considering most games (and accessories) for the next year will be cross-generational, playable on both current and next-gen consoles. Not only that, but lots of publishers are offering a free next-gen upgrade on their games, meaning you could potentially pick up a discounted PS4 game like FIFA 21 and then upgrade it to the PS5 version when you do decide to upgrade to the new console.
Black Friday PS4 deals: what to expect
With the PS5 set to release in the “Holiday 2020” window, we’ve seen stock of the former console dwindling in recent months, though retailers are starting to jump back in with units available. That may mean Sony is looking to discontinue its older consoles rather than run the two generations concurrently and if that’s the case, there’s two possible outcomes when it comes to Black Friday PS4 deals. We might see retailers trying to shift older stock at fantastic prices come November, but if that stock isn’t there to begin with this might be a console-light shopping season.
But it isn’t just PS4 bundles that we we’re used to seeing big discounts on over Black Friday. That’s good news if you’re not interested in upgrading, because we might also see big savings on PS4 games, PS Plus, PS4 accessories, PS4 headsets, PS4 controllers, PSVR bundles and PSVR games.
BLACK FRIDAY PS4 DEALS LAST YEAR
Last year did see some particularly lucrative Black Friday PS4 deals, and while they were largely the result of flash sales, we also saw plenty of stock holding on well into Cyber Monday. Savings in the US were focused on massive bundles of Sony favorites, offering up a whole starter pack of games with some nice price cuts attached. Over in the UK, we were seeing single bundled games alongside extra accessories included in Black Friday PS4 deals.
If stock does hold for the big shopping weekend, we may see a return to these savings as retailers look to shift remaining units with super low prices and hardware bundled in as well.
