Neil Patrick Harris Halloween: Neil Patrick Harris is the king of Halloween if Heidi Klum is the queen.
In 2010, he and his husband David Burkta welcomed twins Harper and Gideon, and they’ve built a reputation for dressing in adorable costumes each October.
During an appearance on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” in 2016, the actor briefly discussed his family’s Halloween dominance. “It seems to me that you take Halloween very seriously,” Meyers said at the start of the conversation.
Harris replied incredulously, “You don’t?”.
You can see what he means if you examine every costume the family has worn over the years.

In 2011, when the twins had just turned 1, they were Peter Pan, Tinkerbell, Smee, and Captain Hook
The next year, Harper was Dorothy while the boys dressed as her sidekicks: the Tin Man, the Scarecrow, and the Cowardly Lion
In 2013, they created two family costumes. The first was ‘Alice In Wonderland’–themed.
The second was all about Halloween classics: Frankenstein’s monster, a werewolf, Frankenstein’s bride, and Dracula
In 2014, they tried out superhero and villain looks: The kids were Batman and Batgirl and the parents were the Joker and the Riddler
In 2015, they must have been excited about the impending release of ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’
Harris and Burtka went as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Han Solo, respectively, while the twins went as Luke and Leia Skywalker (the characters are twins, too).
In 2016, they dressed up as Hollywood legends: Groucho Marx, Charlie Chaplin, Marilyn Monroe, and James Dean
And they looked adorable, as usual.
Harris dubbed their 2017 look ‘The Burtka-Harris Halloween Carnival of Curiosities’ — and it looks like an ode to the TV show ‘American Horror Story: Freak Show,’ which Harris appeared in
Harris was dressed as a deranged ringleader, while Burtka was a creepy clown. Their son Gideon was dressed as a strong man, and their daughter Harper was dressed as a bearded lady.
Burtka, Harris, and Gideon all dressed as the hitchhiking ghosts, while Harper was dressed as the classic ghost bride, complete with an ax.
“Welcome, foolish mortals. We hope your Halloween is happily haunted, but heed this warning: beware of Hitchhiking Ghosts!” Burtka wrote on Instagram.
For their 2019 Halloween costumes, the family dressed as real-life icons
Harris wore clothing inspired by Vincent Van Gogh and Burtka channeled Salvador Dali. Meanwhile, Harper dressed as Frida Kahlo and Gideon dressed as Andy Warhol.
“Welcome to the 2019 Burtka-Harris Boo-seum of Art. Audio guides are available in the gift shop,” Harris captioned the collage shared on Instagram.
In 2020, they donned outfits inspired by ‘Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory’
Gideon and Harper dressed as golden ticket winners Charlie Bucket and Veruca Salt. Harris dressed as sneaky candy maker Slugworth and Burtka played the titular character.
“Oompa, loompa, doompety doo! We’ve got a family photo for you!” the “How I Met Your Mother” alum captioned his post.
“This year, may you invent an October 31st that is spirited, safe, and scrumptious,” he continued. “Invention, my dear friends, is 93% perspiration, 6% electricity, 4% evaporation, and 2% butterscotch ripple.”
