Eid Ul Adha Activities: Whether you are a parent, caregiver, grandparent, teacher, aunt, uncle, or an older sibling, you will want to explore different methods of teaching children about the significance of Eid al-Adha; after all, each child is unique and will have his or her own way of learning and exploring the religion of Islam!

The most obvious method is talking to children about the importance of Eid al-Adha; to make this discussion more interesting, you can use the ‘Kaaba Box of Knowledge’, where you put in slips of paper with key facts about Islam (in this case, key facts about Eid al-Adha) written on them, and let your child take out one paper at a time and talk about the fact.

• The story of the prophet Ibrahim (AS)
• Hajj
• Fasting on the day of ‘Arafah
• Qurbani (sacrificing an animal and distributing meat to the poor)

Here are 10 other ways to teach children about Eid Al-Adha:

1. Eid Printables

There are many FREE printables available for your children to learn from. Printables are great because they act as a guide for parents, and children have fun coloring the pages! Here are some examples:

2. Eid Party

Eid parties are a great way to get children excited about Eid al-Adha and for them to learn more about this Islamic holiday! For an Eid al-Adha party, you can have a sheep theme or you can have a hajj theme! Here are a couple of examples:

3. Stories, Songs, and Poems

Read a story about Eid al-Adha from your local library! Last year, we found the book, The Best Eid Ever by Asma Mobin-Uddin at our local library and the kids loved it!

Or if you like, you and your children can write a story about Eid al-Adha together. Another creative way to learn about Eid Al-Adha is to get your children to write a poem, or even write and sing a song! Here’s a poem that my children and I wrote last year (that can easily be sung as a song):

 

4. Put Together A Play 

Most children would love participating in a play about Eid al-Adha. Children can act out their favorite Eid al-Adha storybook, create their own play, or even reenact this story.

5. YouTube Videos

My oldest daughter enjoyed watching this video, which is a great visual of how Eid al-Adha originated.

6. Eid Crafts

There are countless amounts of crafts that children can make while learning about the concept of Eid al-Adha! Here are a couple of websites with some fantastic ideas:

7. Puppet Shows

Puppet shows are always a big hit at our place, so it’s no surprise that I will be using this method to teach my children about Eid al-Adha. You or your children can act out a story that is related to Eid Al-Adha, such as put on a puppet show of an Eid day.

For the puppets, you can make them using fabric or by using popsicle sticks with paper cutouts. Feel free to use my DIY Islamic felt puppets tutorial for inspiration:

8. Food

Sheep shaped cookies and cakes will not only provide a yummy treat for your family, but you can also teach your children about how animals are included in this special celebration of Eid al-Adha (sacrificing an animal and distributing the meat amongst the less fortunate) while the treats are baking in the oven! 9. Activities

A great activity for children is to perform hajj at home! I found this great blog post that gives an example of how to do so, check it out here!

 10. Viewing Images Online

There are tons of images of Eid Al-Adha celebrations around the world online that include different cultures. Pick your favorite pictures from the internet and make a slide show, or a couple of different slide shows.

Different Learning Styles:

When selecting which of the 10 methods you should use to teach your children about Eid al-Adha, keep in mind which learning style your children learn best from. I have divided the 10 methods according to the learning styles for you:

• Visual (spatial, using pictures and images): 5, 7, 10
• Aural (auditory, using sound): 3, 4, 5
• Verbal (linguistic, using words): 3, 4
• Physical (kinesthetic, using your body and hands): 1, 6, 8, 9
• Social (interpersonal, learning in groups): 2, 4
• Solitary (intrapersonal, learning best alone): 1, 3, 5, 6, 10
