Women’s Day Australia

International Women’s Day (IWD) – 8 March – is a time to reflect on progress made, to call for change and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women, who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities.

For over 30 years, UN Women Australia has hosted Australia’s pre-eminent IWD fundraising events, drawing together people from diverse backgrounds to celebrate global achievements, agitate for change and raise life-changing funds to support the world’s women and girls.

In 2022 we’ll be celebrating under the International Women’s Day theme, Changing Climates: Equality today for a sustainable tomorrow – a theme that recognises the contribution of women and girls around the world, who are working to change the climate of gender equality and build a sustainable future.

This IWD we are honoured to feature an exclusive in-depth interview with internationally renowned and celebrated scientist, conservationist and human rights activist, Dr Jane Goodall. Appearing virtually, Dr Goodall will be interviewed by Linh Do, a sustainability activist and leader in her own right. Our events will also include an inspiring range of local speakers live in each city.

Attending our official IWD events is a fantastic way to celebrate women’s achievements and show your friends, family, colleagues and community that you support the world’s largest movement for gender equality.

In 2022, UN Women Australia will be holding our IWD events in Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, and online on Friday 4 March 2022.

IWD 2022 Theme

The International Women’s Day 2022 theme, Changing Climates: Equality today for a sustainable tomorrow, recognises and celebrates the contribution of women and girls around the world, who are working to change the climate of gender equality and build a sustainable future.

Harnessing the skills and knowledge of women to conserve our natural resources and create a healthier, more sustainable planet, is central to achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.

Women and girls face greater vulnerability and exposure to disasters, and conflicts, and yet they remain largely ignored in developing solutions and their capabilities are often under-utilised.

As the most impacted, women are also a critical part of the solution.

At our IWD 2022 events, female advocates from across the globe will share how they have helped change the climate of inequality in their communities, in the face of disasters and during times of crisis, conflict and global pandemics.

Hear from women who inspire, engage and advocate for change, resilience and sustainability – activists, advocates and leaders who are committed to accelerating the pace of change, contributing to a more sustainable future for all.

Join UN Women Australia on International Women’s Day 2022, to show your support for women everywhere, who are standing up and changing the climate for gender equality, contributing to a more sustainable tomorrow.

In 2022, UN Women Australia will be holding our IWD fund-raising events in Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, and online on Friday 4 March 2022.

We are live streaming the events to a virtual platform and you can watch them live, or for a limited time afterwards, from anywhere in Australia.

Register now! We anticipate high demand for the live events so make sure you book before they sell out.
