Valentine Sneakers
Kids will strut their stuff this Valentine’s Day in DIY decorated sneakers with colorful fabric laces.
To make: Use fabric paint to paint hearts on the top and sides of sneakers. Tear a long piece of fabric into thin strips and thread through eyelets.
Tie Dye Gym Bag
Kids will love making and toting around books or gym clothes in this DIY tie dye bag.
To make: Start by washing a 100% cotton tote bag. While still damp, fold the bag in half. Using a chalk pencil or disappearing pen, draw an exaggerated heart on half of the bag, starting and ending at the fold. Pleat the bag, lining up the heart line (once pleated, the line should be straight). Use a zip tie or rubber band to hold pleats together. Create more pleats along the remaining bag, holding in place with zip ties or rubber bands. Place different color dyes in separate squeeze bottles (you will need as many colors ass pleated sections). Start by squeezing dye on heart section stopping 1/2 inch from the zip tie. Continue dying, using another color between each zip tie. Allow to dry completely, then remove tie.
Puff Paint Valentines Tote Bag
The little ones will love giving this tote to their dear friends on this February 14.
To make: Use puff paint to draw designs and write a sweet note on a small tote bag. Allow to dry completely.
Heart-Shaped Rag Wreath
Wrap strips of soft flannel around a heart-shaped foam wreath form to create a soft statement piece that says “I love you!”
Heat Tie Dye T-shirt
Create some high-fashion for the big day by creating a custom tie dye T-shirt.
To make: Start by washing a 100% cotton T-shirt. While still damp, fold the shirt in half. Using a chalk pencil or disappearing pen, draw an exaggerated heart on half of the shirt, starting and ending at the fold. Continue dying, using a another color between each zip tie. Allow to dry completely then remove ties.
Colored Pencil Vase
Magnify the hues of gifts from the garden with a kaleidoscope of colored pencils hot-glued to a glass vase or jar. Let kids fill a vase with your favorite blossoms (we chose purple and white lilacs, anemone, and privet berry) and tie a bow (we used double-faced satin ribbon) around the bottom.
