Best Quotes from the Captain Marvel
10“This Isn’t About Fighting Wars. It’s About Ending Them.”
This quote is from Mar-Vell talking about the lightyear engine and her work. It’s clear that Mar-Vell is a big inspiration and a mentor in Carol’s life, and Mar-Vell’s willingness to go against what she knew and save the Skrulls definitely influences Carol to do the same. This quote is also inspiring because it illuminates something bad about Kree culture. The Kree are all about being noble warriors, but fighting isn’t always the ultimate good.
9“Tell The Supreme Intelligence That I’m Coming To End It. The War, The Lies, All Of It.”
At the end of the movie, Captain Marvel finally displays her full powers. She saves the earth and the Skrulls, and she kicks Yon-Rogg’s butt. In this dramatic, inspiring moment, Captain Marvel tells Yon-Rogg to carry a message to the Supreme Intelligence. While we don’t know if Captain Marvel is ever actually able to complete this mission in the MCU, it’s definitely a worthy goal and one that can make fans excited to root for Captain Marvel as a hero.
8“If There Are Lives At Stake, I’ll Fly The Plane.”
Carol Danvers was a hero long before she ever had any superpowers. As an Air Force pilot, she was always looking for ways to be her best and to save other people. When Mar-Vell needed to fly into space for a dangerous mission, Carol was happy to volunteer, even if it meant putting her own life at risk. Her willingness to sacrifice her own life for other people and to use her skills for good is part of what makes her such a great hero.
7“Call Me Young Lady Again, And I’m Gonna Put My Foot In A Place It’s Not Supposed To Be.”
Maria Rambeau is also an inspiring character and hero, and many fans would love to see more of her. She’s an accomplished pilot and highly skilled, and she and Carol were best friends as well as partners in the Air Force. With this quote, she makes it clear that she takes no crap from anyone and that she won’t be demeaned or referred to as a child. Rambeau definitely can hold her own, and she is willing in the film to make hard sacrifices to help save other people.
6“Grunge Is A Good Look For You.”
This is one of the more lighthearted quotes on this list, but it definitely deserves its place. Fury says this to Carol after she dons her Nine Inch Nails outfit. This was a hilarious moment that showed audiences that they are dealing with a much younger Nick Fury who hasn’t been as hardened by the world yet. And, Carol Danvers really did look good in the grunge look which was a fun nod to the time period in which this movie was set.
5“I’m Not Gonna Fight Your War, I’m Going To End It.”
Captain Marvel is clearly inspired by her mentor Mar-Vell when she says this quote. She has broken free of the restraints, lies, and memory loss and is now trying to do the right thing. The war between the Kree and the Skrulls has claimed many lives, including many innocent ones. Captain Marvel shows that she is a formidable and admirable hero because, in the end, she’s more about ending wars and saving lives than she is about fighting.
4“Higher Further Faster, Baby.”
This is a fun and easily quoted line that speaks to the heart of the film and who Captain Marvel is. As pilots in the Air Force, Maria and Carol would say this line to each other as a reminder of their skills and their desire to strive to be the best. This line is also a feminist one that can be applied to the movie itself and the excitement of Marvel finally having its first female-led movie.
class="item-num">3“We Have No Idea What Threats Are Out There. We Can’t Do This Alone. We Need You.”
Nick Fury says this line to Captain Marvel, but unfortunately, she has to leave to fulfill some other mission first. The encounter with Captain Marvel is clearly a driving force in Fury’s life and changes the course of his life forever. He is inspired by Captain Marvel to come up with the Avengers Initiative, even naming it after her plane. His time with Captain Marvel is what shows him that there are heroes and aliens out there and that he needs to be prepared.
2“I Have Nothing To Prove To You.”
This moment might be one of the most powerful in the film, and it’s definitely a powerful and empowering line. Captain Marvel says this to Yon-Rogg after he tries to bait and goad her into fighting him and proving herself. When Captain Marvel quickly shows that she can kick his ass, she tells him she has nothing to prove. This is definitely a line that many women can relate to, and it was one of the best in the movie.
1.“ I’ve Been Fighting With One Arm Behind My Back. What Happens When I’m Finally Set Free?”
Arguably the best line in the movie could be this one. This moment is an exciting and dramatic one in the movie. When Captain Marvel removes the inhibitor that’s been put in her neck, she is finally able to show the full extent of her powers, and she really is powerful. This line also resonates with many women, and other minorities, who can relate to the feeling of being inhibited by society only to find their own power.
Powerful Captain Marvel Quotes
10This Isn’t About Fighting Wars
“This isn’t about fighting wars. It’s about ending them.” -Carol Danvers in Captain Marvel
Simple, poignant, and powerful. That’s Captain Marvel in a nutshell. She’s right, being a hero is about so much more than fighting a war. It’s ending them. It’s protecting the people who need it, who can’t do it for themselves.
“You screwed up, Avengers. That’s human. What is also human is the ability to learn from those mistakes. To grow. To mature. If you do that – even a little – then perhaps what I went through will have a positive meaning. It’s your choice.” -Avengers Annual #10 (1981)
Even when she has gone through horrible events, Carol knows what is right. She also knows what it is to be human, and that means she understands making mistakes. She’s made plenty, and she owns up to that fact. So she’s willing to look through when somebody else makes one as well. As long as they make the pain caused worth it.
8She Really Does Get To Fly
“I’d tell her that her wish comes true. She really does get to fly. And she’ll fly higher and faster and further than she even dreamed.” – Captain Marvel Vol. 1: Higher, Further, Faster, More
There’s a running theme of speed and flight in Carol’s journey. It’s beautiful, with a message many of us can identify with. That makes this quote all the more powerful, as she speaks of her dream coming true.
7A Moment When She’s Outrun Every Doubt
“Have you ever seen a little girl run so far she falls down? There’s an instant, a fraction of a second before the world catches hold of her again…A moment when she’s outrun every doubt and fear she’s ever had about herself and she flies. In that one moment, every little girl flies. I need to find that again. Like taking a car out in the desert to see how fast it can go, I need to find the edge of me…And maybe, if I fly far enough, I’ll be able to turn around and look at the world…And see where I belong.” -Captain Marvel Vol. 8 #1
This may be one of Carol’s longer quotes, but we couldn’t resist including it in this list. It’s one of the most beautiful things she’s said; talking about a little girl and everything she can go to while trying to find her place to belong. In this case, that little girl is Carol. But so many of us can picture ourselves in this position.
6Today I Stand As One
“My name is Captain Marvel…I am an Earthling and an Avenger. But today I stand as one with the settlers of Torfa, who claim this planet and its resources as they were freely given in the aftermath of the Behemoth disaster…They are a peaceful people, but I am a woman of war. If you move against them, you move against me. I am willing to die here today, for this cause. I have made my choice…Now you make yours.” -Captain Marvel Vol. 8 #2
Okay, so we included one other long quote, but we really couldn’t resist this one either! This was a powerful moment, as Captain Marvel stood up for refugees on a new plant they founded for themselves. This was were Carol really owned everything about herself, becoming the protector and guardian of people outside of Earth, and proving she is capable of such great goodness.
5We Are Capable Of So Much More
“We are capable of so much more than we think we are. All we have to do is reach for it. All we have to be is fearless.” Fearless #4
Once again, Captain Marvel is right. Even outside of context, this quote carries so much truth and meaning. People are capable of so much, both in groups and individually. We can do great things, as long as we’re willing to put in the effort and actually try. As long as we stop being too afraid to actually try.
4I Make My Reality
“I made my choices! They define me! They made – No. I make my decisions. I make my reality. And my reality is…I am…Captain Marvel!” -Captain Marvel Vol. 1
This quote is amazing. Here we see Carol have a realization halfway through her sentence, and that realization is a beautiful one. Carol is the only person who decides her path in life – she makes the choices that directly affect what kind of person she will be. The same goes for each and every one of us.
3I Don’t Give Up!
“Easier said than done, buster, because even with my back against the wall – I don’t give up!” -Ms. Marvel Vol. 1 #17
Ha! That is the Captain Marvel we all know and love. This is a Carol ready and willing to take on the universe – including but especially an arrogant antagonist who thinks he can take her down. We love the sass and determination she’s showing off here. You go girl.
2I’m Not Going To Run Away
“And I’m not going to run away from anything…ever again.” -Ms. Marvel Vol. 2 10
A short yet very powerful quote, especially when one knows and understands everything that Carol has gone through in her past. We love that Captain Marvel has taken that all in, and has made a promise to herself to do better. To be better.
1Being The Best You Can Be
“But being the best you can be…That’s doable. That’s possible for anybody if they put their mind to it.” -Ms. Marvel Vol. 2 #50
Of course, Captain Marvel would deeply and truly believe that being the best you can be is completely doable. That’s in her nature, to believe something like that. After all, each and every day Carol pushes herself harder than ever, trying to surpass the best, to make herself even better. Still, there’s something powerful in seeing a hero believe we can all achieve the best we have to offer.
